Step 1
Before you go
International roaming needs to be enabled on your account before you travel. Plan ahead to avoid issues at your destination.
- Contact us at least 48 hours before departure to enable international roaming
- Check that roaming is enabled on your device in Settings
- Note the PCONNECT international support number: +61 2 8395 0222 (1300 numbers can't be dialled from overseas)
- Download offline maps and any essential content while on Wi-Fi
- Consider a data roaming limit to avoid unexpected charges
How it works
On the ground
When you travel overseas with roaming enabled, your phone connects to a partner network in the country you're visiting. Calls, texts, and data work as normal — but are charged at international roaming rates rather than your standard plan rates.
Your phone will automatically select the best available network. In most cases, no manual configuration is needed beyond enabling data roaming in your device settings.
Save money
Reduce roaming data usage
- Use Wi-Fi wherever possible — hotels, airports, cafes
- Disable automatic app updates and cloud photo syncing
- Turn off background app refresh for non-essential apps
- Use offline maps instead of streaming navigation
- Download music, podcasts, and videos before your trip
- Disable mobile data entirely when not in use and rely on Wi-Fi
